Important note

This calculation is for guidance only and is not legal advice. It assumes the statutory minimum entitlement of 5 weeks under the UrlG.

Assumptions of this calculation

  • 5 weeks of vacation per leave year (excluding the 6th week from the 26th year of service).
  • The leave year starts on the employment date, not the calendar year.
  • No carryover from earlier leave years and no expiry are considered.
  • No pro-rating on termination of employment (leave compensation).

How is vacation entitlement calculated in Austria?

Under the Austrian Vacation Act (UrlG), employees are entitled to 5 weeks of paid vacation per leave year. That is 25 working days in a 5-day week or 30 working days in a 6-day week.

For part-time work, the entitlement is converted to the actual working days per week: working days per week times 5 weeks. A 3-day week gives 15 working days per year, a 2-day week 10. Measured in weeks, entitlement stays at 5 weeks.

During the first six months of the first working year, entitlement accrues pro-rata to the completed period of service. Afterwards the full annual entitlement applies. The leave year generally starts on the employment date.
